Police hoping to crack Britain’s burgeoning trade in counterfeit beauty products arrested a west London couple and seized suspected fake cosmetics worth thousands.

Detectives from City of London Police’s intellectual property crime unit swooped on their home in Hanwell yesterday morning and found what they believe to be 250 imitation brand perfumes and hair straighteners.

The 52-year-old man and 46-year-old woman are suspected of selling the items, which purport to be big name brands, online at huge markups.
